Staff

The Potomac District first chartered with the National Royal Ranger’s office in 1975. Throughout it’s history, the men and women who have served this district have been some of the finest, well trained and dedicated people you can imagine. Through their tireless efforts, exhaustive training and commitment to excellence, this district has emerged as and remains one of the Nations finest. Take a few minutes and get to know your current staff. A special appreciation needs to be extended to all those who have gone before and laid the groundwork. Without those early pioneers clearing the path our way surely would be more difficult.

Executive Staff

The District Executive Staff are those individuals who are the primary policymaking body. Under the leadership of the District Commander, these men and women are responsible for the various activities in the district. They assist the District Commander where necessary and provide spiritual leadership and support.

Ron Davis; District Commander

Ron Davis has been active in Royal Rangers for 30 years, starting out as a boy in the Program and now serving as our District Commander.  He has served in nearly every capacity of leadership on the local, Sectional and District levels, continuing each week as Senior Cmdr in his local Outpost.  He is a National Training Camp Instructor, having staffed NTC and ANTC camps for over 25 years.  He is the co-proprietor of the FCF Blue Ridge Chapter’s “Weary Traveller Inn” – a colonial dining establishment.  Ron comes to lead our District in the spirit of FCF: To give, and to Serve.

Homer L. Kitchen; Deputy District Commander

Commander Kitchen began his involvement in Royal Rangers in 1977 and has worked in the local Outpost levels as Senior Commander and several age groups. Commander Kitchen is most often referred to as “Mr. Senior Guide”. He has served in this role for all of the District’s Junior Training Camps. He is a member of FCF and has been an Executive Staff member as Deputy District Commander since 1980. Commander Kitchen has served on numerous National Training Camps in staff positions. Commander Kitchen is a Wilderness member of FCF.

Commander Phil Georg: District Training Coordinator

Commander Tracy Groves: Powwow/Productions Coordinator

Commander Groves is a Ranger from the word go. He is one of the District’s early Gold Medal of Achievement recipients as GMA # 11 earned in 1983 with both the Gold and Silver Buffalo’s. Commander Groves is responsible for the Pow-Wow pageantry and if you have been to one of the evening services, you can attest to the fantastic displays of pyrotechnics, scenery, sound and lighting. He also works closely with the various speakers and groups that minister at these events to ensure top quality presentations. His record as a Ranger is long and impressive that includes: Wilderness, FCF chapter scout, Territorial scout, Sectional Ranger of the Year for 5 years and District Ranger of the Year for 4 years. He has served on the Eastern Sectional Staff prior to coming with the District.

Bill “Red Paddle” Chestnut; Frontiersman Camping Fellowship Chapter President

Commander Bob Blessing: District Public Relations Coordinator

Commander Blessing (well it may as well be said now) is truly a blessing to the forward motion of Royal Rangers in the District. His background in sales and corporate public relations makes him a natural. Commander Blessing is one of those “talented people” when it comes to presentation and display. Although a recent new comer to Royal Rangers, he is sure to keep our District out in the forefront. He has shared some creative and new ways of reaching new churches as well as communicating to our current outposts.

Commander’s Mike and Linda Cocolin: Ranger Kids Coordinators

A good team is hard to beat. That’s how best to describe this dynamic duo. Commander’s Mike and Linda have through the years developed a style that builds on itself. They have established themselves in sectional leadership and have developed Buckaroo and Straight Arrow programs and conducted field days for quite some time. The advent of the new Ranger Kids program will certainly bring new challenges. They have embraced these challenges and are moving forward breaking new ground. Commander Mike is diverse as well. He heads up the Blue Ridge Chapter’s Pathfinder teams that travel to remote portions of foreign countries building churches, schools and the like.

Gary Groves; Alumni President

“Blazin Bear” has over 20 years service with Royal Rangers. He has served in many Sectional and District capacities.  His motto “I’m only here to serve” best describes this gentle yet slightly eclectic man. Commander Groves can most often be found helping a young buck or encouraging an old timer (in his own distinct way).

Bubba Hill: Potomac District Junior Aid De Camp

Bubba joins the Potomac District Staff as one of two Junior Aids serving in various capacities. More importantly, is the fact that he will be part of our continuing vision of mentorship. Bubba comes to us with rather impressive credentials. Most notably, he is a Gold Medal of Achievement recipient. In addition, Bubba has served as a National FC F Scout for the Colonial Territory and Chapter Scout for the Blue Ridge Chapter. As a Wilderness member, Bubba has continually demonstrates his desire to be the best Christian example he can be and help to bring out that quality in others as well.

Seth Van De Ven: Potomac District Junior Aid De Camp

Seth is the second of our two young men serving the Potomac District. Seth is also a Gold Medal Recipient, member of FCF and a Free Trapper. After turning 18, he wasted no time in pursuing Leadership Training and has been involved in his local outpost’s leadership structure since. Seth brings with him a natural sense of leadership and desire to be in the center of God’s will. Not only will he participate in our vision of mentorship, undoubtedly, he will help us perpetuate the ideal of leadership development in other young men as well.

District Advisory Staff

The Potomac District Executive and District staff has been fortunate to have many distinguished individuals serve along the way. An advisory board was established that allows those who have retired to continue to serve and contribute. They advise and provide leadership that is an encouragement to those currently serving.

Commander C. Clifton (Cliff) Jewell Jr.; Headquarters Officer

Commander Jewell started as an Outpost Commander in 1976. He joined the District Executive Staff in 1983 and has worked in various capacties and wherever needed. Special note: The names marked with an asterisk indicates those who have been awarded the Outstanding Service Award. This award is the highest that can be given to an individual by the District Commander and recognizes those who have demonstrated outstanding service and contribution over an extended period of time.
